T he emergence of cyber perils like data breaches and ransomware cre ated uncertainty for policyholders. Would traditional insurance policies cover cyber losses? How would specialist cyber policies respond if the insured failed to implement basic security measures? How about losses caused by state-sponsored at tacks? These are all reasonable questions a potential buyer might have. To resolve uncertainty, buyers might look to online reports about cyber dis putes. The goal of our study was to under stand how online sources – including me dia companies – shape expectations about cyber coverage. To do this, we analyzed a sample of 101 media articles, industry blog posts and law review articles.
